はじめに
MSDNライブラリには、マイクロソフトの技術情報が大量に掲載されていますが、英語版に比べ、日本語版の内容は中途半端なのが実状です。
たとえば、スレッドの優先順位を設定する「SetThreadPriority」関数の説明を見ると、英語版には「Windows Server 2008およびWindows Vistaでは、スタートアップやレジストリのRUNから自動実行されたプログラムに対するスレッドの優先順位指定が、システム開始から60秒程度効かない」との注意書きがありますが、日本語版にはありません。
また、仮想ディスクの情報を設定する「SetVirtualDiskInformation」関数を検索すると、英語版には説明がありますが、日本語版には項目自体がありません。
そこで本記事では、MSDNライブラリの英語版がスラスラ読めるように、とはいきませんが、英単語で引っかかることが少なくなるように、MSDNによく出る英単語を頻度順に100個紹介します。

英単語の選別ルール
英単語の抽出手順は、次の通りです。
- 「Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7」のドキュメントから、「Win32 and COM Development」配下の約2,500万語をプレーンテキスト化（MSDN LibraryのWindows Development配下にほぼ相当）。
- シェアウェア「ワーズピッカー／英単語拾い」を利用して、単語を原形・単数形に統一。
- 独自にC言語で組んだプログラムを使って、頻度順にソート。
- 「find（見つける）」や「second（秒）」といった中学校で習う簡単な単語を除外。
- 「compile（コンパイル）」「implementation（実装）」といった開発者であれば当然知っているであろう単語を除外。
- 上位100個を選択。
この単語リストに、発音、MSDNライブラリでよく使われる意味、おもにMSDNライブラリからの引用による例文を追加しました。

まずは、1位から50位までの英単語を紹介します。
